Do you want to assist in the resettlement of refugees in Las Vegas? There are many ways you can help our refugee clients create happy, healthy, sustainable lives in our Southern Nevada community!

In-Kind Donations!

The ACC needs a wide variety of good quality, in-kind materials donated on a monthly basis.

Household Items:

When refugees arrive here in Las Vegas, ACC must have an apartment set up and ready to be lived in. Therefore, we rely heavily on donated household items so our Resettlement & Placement budget can be used for our clients rather than on material goods. We’re looking for the following:

Tables & Chairs, Love Seats, Sofas, sheets & linens, bathroom supplies (towels, washcloths, hygiene items), kitchen supplies (pots, pans, cooking & eating utensils), cleaning supplies, dressers, lamps, nightstands, etc.

Clothing

Used clothing doesn’t have to look bad, and it helps a refugee’s self esteem if he or she can feel presentable. Also, we need work attire for our clients so they are able to dress well for job interviews and other formal occasions. Please make sure that all used clothing is washed and clean before donating!

Miscellaneous Items

Sometimes the difference between a house and a home are the items that allow us to enjoy ourselves. Stereo and music systems, televisions, computers, and children’s toys all go a long way in allowing refugees to relax a little as they adjust to our culture and way of life.

ACC also needs various items like school supplies for children and office equipment for our workers. If you have something you would like to donate, but aren’t sure if we can use it, please feel free to email or call us at any time! All in-kind donated items will be provided with a receipt for tax purposes and all donated items are used for program matching purposes.

Cash Donations!

Cash donations are very important for our operations at ACC! They allow us to assist refugees who may be in financial trouble due to Las Vegas’ high unemployment rate and economic situation. Also, cash donations let us purchase emergency items for refugee families, like diapers, hygiene materials, or medical supplies. You never know what can happen, and your generosity helps ACC do the best work we can to assist refugees in building happy, healthy, sustainable lives. Contact the Resource Developer at 702-836-3324 x209 for more details on monetary donations.

Volunteer!

The African Community Center also has volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups.

Currently, we are looking for interested individuals who can assist our case workers and employment sepcialist on working with refugee clients and preparing them for their new lives in Las Vegas. If you have some experience in there areas, or would like to gain some experience, please contact us for a volunteer application!

We are also open to communiy groups who would like to mentor refugee families during their first few months in the United States. As a Community Mentor, groups would prepare outings for client families, teaching them how to do everything from riding the bus to shopping at a grocery store. Mentors can also plan community dinners or trips to the park; the opportunities are endless! Community mentors are very important, as they provide a welcoming face and a local anchor to our community, which may seem unwelcoming and frightening to immigrants who have not had time to adjust to our culture and way of life.

Please contact our Resource Developer about these programs and begin donating your time or resources today!
